Electric Fields

Several trace panels with different trace geometries are available.

1) place a trace panel on the overhead projector.
2) place the sealed container of semolina seeds and oil on the trace panel, adjust projector focus, then remove the container.
3) connect the high voltage to the trace panel
4) turn on high voltage
5) shake / rotate sealed container so that particles are evenly distributed and in suspension
6) place container on top of the conductive trace
7) observe movement of particles to align with the electric field.

An older demonstration used:
High voltage power supply, Container with chopped hair and diffusion pump fluid, Circular Source, Circular and single point sources, overhead mask 
1. Connect high voltage power supply to 1 of 5 set ups 
2. Place circular projection mask on overhead and focus on the particles in the fluid.
3. Turn on power supply for 4 minutes 
4. Carefully remove electrode and place on mat 
5. Observe electric field pattern
