Description:

Illustrations voltage / potential drop along a piece of wire.
Put 1VDC across the wire.

Note: wire needs to be cleaned (oxidation)!!

Old Apparatus:
Potentiometer board,
1-6V D.C. Lantern battery,
2-""C"" cells,
1-standard cell,
3 way switch,
Projection Galvanometer

Old description:
1. Connect as shown 
2. Check continuity of resistance wire and voltage level of the dry cells

Method:
1. Switch to standard cell and then press potentiometer contact 
2. Observe deflection of Galvanometer and then adjust contact to obtain a null 
3. Note its position on the scale 
4. switch to unknown dry cells and again press contact 
5. Next obtain a null deflection on galvanometer
