Description:

Setup: 1. Connect as shown, using metal pin in electroscope 2. Sand zinc plate with emery paper Demonstration: 1. Charge electroscope negatively using cat's fur and plastic 2. Turn on U.V. lamp and observe the leaf discharge 3. Insert the U.V. filter in front of light source and observe how the discharge will stop 4. Charge electroscope positively using the glass rod and silk 5. Turn on U.V. lamp and this time observe that the charge doesn't dissipate 6. Repeat procedure using a white light source and observe that the charge remains unaffected
