Description:
Shows vibration patterns on an aluminum plate.
1) Place chladni plate on top of garbage bag (less cleanup). 2) Connect function generator directly to inputs of the chladni plate. 3) Sprinkle sand (lightly) on plate. 4) Set function generator to square wave. 5) Patterns can be observed from 100Hz and up. Example frequencies: 280Hz, 750Hz, 1440Hz, 2150Hz
There is also a number of large chladni plates (circle, violin, oval, square). These can be set to vibrate manually using gut string on hacksaw (needs rosin!) or better, driven with large speakers from the knots experiment in the upper year labs.
Violin plate shaker frequencies: 39.4Hz 64.3Hz 81.6Hz 109.8Hz 122.3Hz 141.5Hz 411Hz 500.9Hz 555.7Hz 623Hz
