Flow Table
Description:
Apparatus is helpful for some qualitative flow illustrations. The unit pumps a 1/8" layer of water across a clear tank and food colouring can be added manually to illustrate flow behaviour. Setup: 1) Level overhead projector with shim. 2) Place flow table on projector, fill such that water depth at the center is approximately 1/8" to 3/16" (it may be useful to put a small amount of water in first and then leveling the overhead projector by looking at water depth). 3) Fix aquarium pump on the side opposite the nozzle, plug in power. 4) Prime pump by lifting the hose connector on the pump until water gushes out, reconnect hose connector. 5) Ensure nozzles are not blocked and that water is coming out. place nozzles/inlet in the (deeper) surrounding reservoirs. 6) Add flow shapes to set up flow boundaries and study flow patterns using diluted food colouring from an eyedropper. 7) Adjust pieces and position of nozzle/pump until flow appears even across the area of interest. Ensure equipment is purged with clear water after demonstration! |
